How to use the 2D floor planner
Create a 2D floor plan for a room, apartment, or home project. Draw walls, add doors and windows, arrange furniture, and export your plan when it is ready.
- Start with the Wall tool, which is active when the planner opens.
- Draw connected walls on the canvas, using snapping to help align them.
- Choose the Door or Window tool, then place each item on a wall.
- Open Furniture to add items and use Inspect to review selected objects.
- Use Measure, zoom, pan, and Fit to check the layout, then save or export your plan.
Example: Plan a living room
Open the planner to start with a blank canvas and the Wall tool active. Draw the room boundary, switch to Door to place an entry, and switch to Window to add openings along the walls. Open Furniture to arrange the room, then use Measure and Fit to review the layout before saving or exporting it.
How the floor planner works
The planner provides a 2D canvas for drawing and arranging plan elements. Walls, doors, windows, furniture, and measurements are edited from the toolbar and side panels. Snapping helps objects align while you draw; hold Shift while drawing to disable snapping. Use V to select, W for walls, D for doors, N for windows, M to measure, H or Space-drag to pan, F to fit the plan, and R to rotate. Use Delete to remove an item and Ctrl+Z or Ctrl+Shift+Z to undo or redo.
Reading the results
Review the drawing directly on the canvas. Use Inspect for details about the selected item, Furniture for available furnishings, My plans for saved plans, and Trace image for working with a reference image. Zoom with the scroll wheel or a pinch gesture, then export the completed plan from the planner controls.
Limitations and common mistakes
- The planner opens with an empty plan, so you must draw the walls or choose an available template.
- Snapping may not place an element exactly where you want it; hold Shift while drawing to turn snapping off.
- The canvas is a 2D planning view and does not provide a 3D walkthrough.
- Available side-panel features depend on the selected tab: Inspect, Furniture, My plans, or Trace image.
