About HomeDesignKit
A design magazine with working tools inside it, built for people planning real homes in the United States.
What we publish
Guides on home decoration, interior design, residential architecture, furniture, paint and color, renovation, DIY, gardens and home organization. Alongside the writing we build interactive tools: floor planners, material and cost calculators, furniture sizing tools, color tools and moodboards. Everything runs in the browser and nothing requires an account.
How the tools are made
Each calculator is written from published trade rules of thumb and manufacturer-neutral constants, then tested against hand-worked reference cases before it is published. Every result shows the formula with your numbers substituted and lists its assumptions, so you can check it. Results are planning estimates. Load-bearing, electrical, plumbing and other safety-related work requires a licensed professional and local code review.
How the writing is made
Drafts are researched and sometimes drafted with the help of language models under editorial control, then reviewed, fact-checked and edited by people before publication. Claims that need evidence cite their sources. Each guide shows its last-reviewed date. Our editorial policy and corrections policy explain the details.
Photography
Interior photography comes from photographers who are credited on every image, including stock photography licensed through Pexels. We do not present renders as real homes. See photography credits.
How the site is funded
Through clearly labeled advertising and affiliate links, disclosed on every page where they appear. Advertising never appears inside tools or results, and recommendations are never sold. Read the affiliate disclosure.
