How to use the 3D floor planner

Use this 3D floor planner to view a saved 2D floor plan as a model. Orbit, zoom, and pan around the layout while checking room areas, walls, openings, and furniture.

  1. Choose a saved plan or demo plan from the Plan menu.
  2. Select Full height, Cut at 4 ft, or Cut at 2 ft under Walls.
  3. Turn Show ceilings on or off.
  4. Turn Show furniture on or off.
  5. Drag to orbit, scroll or pinch to zoom, and right-drag or use two fingers to pan.

What to enter

Plan
Choose a plan saved in this browser or select one of the available demo plans. Use the reload button to check for newly saved plans.
Walls
Choose Full height, Cut at 4 ft, or Cut at 2 ft to change how much of the walls is visible.
Show ceilings
Off by default. Turn it on to display room ceilings; the ceilings face downward and may hide only when you orbit below them.
Show furniture
On by default. Turn it off to view the floor plan without the furniture pieces included in the plan.

Example: Review a saved layout

Select a saved plan from Plan. Leave Walls set to Full height to see the complete wall layout, then turn Show ceilings on to inspect the rooms from below. Turn Show furniture off for a clearer view of the floor and walls. The Plan summary lists the total floor area in sq ft, each room's area, the number of walls, doors and windows, and furniture pieces.

How the 3D view works

The tool converts the selected 2D plan into a 3D scene with room floors, walls, openings, optional ceilings, and optional furniture. The plan is centred in the viewing area. Full height keeps the walls intact. The Cut at 4 ft option uses a 1.22 m wall-cut height, which is approximately 4.0026 ft. The Cut at 2 ft option uses a 0.61 m wall-cut height, which is approximately 2.0013 ft. The labels use feet, but the actual cut thresholds are the metric values above. Room areas are converted to square feet for the Plan summary.

Reading the results

Use the 3D view to inspect the selected layout from different angles. The Plan summary shows the combined floor area in sq ft, each room's area, the number of walls, the number of doors and windows, and the number of furniture pieces. The view supports orbiting, zooming, and panning, but it does not provide a separate first-person walk mode.

Limitations and common mistakes

  • Only plans available in this browser or the included demo plans appear in Plan. Saved plans are stored locally in the browser, so another browser or device may not show them.
  • If a saved plan cannot be read, it may be skipped from the list. Use the reload button after saving or editing a plan in the 2D floor planner.
  • A plan with no walls does not produce a 3D model. Draw walls in the 2D floor planner, save the plan, and reload this tool.
  • The wall-cut controls use metric thresholds of 1.22 m and 0.61 m, even though their labels say 4 ft and 2 ft. Ceiling visibility depends on your viewing angle because ceilings face downward.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use my own floor plan?

Yes. Draw and save a plan in the 2D floor planner. Return here and use the reload button to look for the saved plan in this browser.

How do I see a floor plan without furniture?

Turn Show furniture off. The floors, walls, and other selected scene elements remain visible.

What do the wall cut options mean?

Full height shows the complete walls. Cut at 4 ft uses a 1.22 m cut height, and Cut at 2 ft uses a 0.61 m cut height. These metric thresholds are approximately 4.0026 ft and 2.0013 ft.

Why are my ceilings not visible?

Show ceilings is off by default. Turn it on, then orbit below the ceilings if needed; they face downward and can hide only from that angle.

Can I walk through the 3D model?

The viewer supports orbiting, zooming, and panning around the model. It does not include a separate walk-through or first-person navigation mode.
