How to use the wallpaper cost calculator

Estimate the wallpaper materials and optional professional hanging cost for a room. Enter the wall measurements, roll details and your local prices to see double rolls, adhesive, materials and the total cost.

1. Choose the unit system and enter either individual wall widths or a total perimeter.
2. Enter the wall height, roll width, single-roll length, pattern details and trim allowance.
3. Enter any door or window area to deduct from the strip count.
4. Enter paper, adhesive, tool and optional labor prices.
5. Choose whether to add a recommended spare roll and whether to include professional hanging, then review the total.

What to enter

Unit system

US customary units are the default. Imperial uses feet, inches and square feet. Metric uses metres, centimetres and square metres.

Individual wall widths

Enter each wall width in ft or m. When this list is not empty, its sum overrides Total wall length to paper.

Total wall length to paper

Use the room perimeter in ft or m when individual wall widths are empty. The default is 52.

Wall height

Enter the wall height in ft or m. The default is 8.

Roll width

Enter inches in imperial mode or metres in metric mode. The defaults are 20.5 in or 0.53 m.

Single-roll length

Enter the length of one roll in ft or m. The defaults are 33 ft or 10.05 m.

Pattern repeat

Enter the vertical repeat in inches in imperial mode or centimetres in metric mode. The default is 0, meaning no repeat.

Match type

Choose free, straight or drop. The default is free. Straight match rounds the cut length to whole repeats; drop match also adds half a repeat.

Trim allowance

Enter extra cut length per strip in inches or centimetres. The defaults are 4 in or 10 cm.

Door/window area to deduct

Enter openings in square feet or square metres. The default is 0. Only full-height strip equivalents are deducted.

Price per double roll

Enter the paper price in dollars for one double roll. The default is $60.

Add the recommended spare roll

When enabled, the calculator adds one extra single roll only when its roll estimate recommends one. The default is on.

Adhesive price

Enter the adhesive price in dollars per gallon. The default is $20 per gallon.

Tools allowance

Enter a flat dollar allowance for tools. The default is $25.

Include professional hanging

Turn this on to add labor. The default is off.

Labor per double roll

Enter the labor price in dollars for each double roll. The default is $40 and the field applies when professional hanging is included.

Reading the results

Grand total is the complete calculated amount for paper, adhesive, tools and included labor. Double rolls to buy is the package count used for the cost. Materials includes wallpaper, adhesive and the tools allowance. Labor appears in the summary only when professional hanging is enabled. The detailed results also show strips needed, strips per roll, spare strips, adhesive gallons and the estimated waste percentage.

Limitations and common mistakes

• The calculator uses the roll width, roll length and prices you enter. Confirm that your paper is sold as the assumed single-roll or double-roll format.
• Openings are deducted only as whole full-height strip equivalents, and the calculation keeps at least one strip needed. Smaller partial areas do not reduce the count.
• The extra-roll recommendation is based on spare strips and drop-match status. It does not replace checking pattern alignment, dye lots or the condition of the wall.
• Wall preparation, including repairs, sizing and removal of old wallpaper, is not included in the cost.
