How to use the color palette generator
Use one starting hex color to explore a coordinated interior palette. It is useful when you have a favorite paint color and need related options for walls, trim, furniture, textiles or accents.
- Enter a starting color as a 3- or 6-digit hex value.
- Use the default color or replace it with your own color.
- Generate the palette.
- Review the resulting swatches and hex values.
- Use the colors as a starting point for comparing paint, furnishings and finishes in the room.
What to enter
- Base colour (hex)
- Enter a 3- or 6-digit hex color, with or without the # symbol. The default is #9caf88. For example, use #9caf88 or #9c8.
Example: building a palette from sage green
Enter #9caf88 in Base colour (hex), or keep the default. Generate the palette to see coordinated colors derived from that starting color. Record the displayed hex values, then test small samples in the room before choosing paint or furnishings.
How the palette is generated
The tool uses the starting hex color as the anchor for a generated interior palette. The color engine normalizes valid 3- or 6-digit hex input into lowercase #rrggbb form and creates coordinated color options. The result is a set of digital color suggestions, not a paint-brand match or a measurement-based calculation.
Reading the results
Use the starting color as the color you already want to keep. Compare the generated options by role, such as a larger wall area, lighter trim or a smaller accent. Copy the displayed hex values when comparing colors in other design tools. View colors in the actual room because lighting, surrounding materials and finish can change how they appear.
Limitations and common mistakes
- A hex value represents a digital screen color and does not guarantee an exact paint color match.
- The generator does not account for room lighting, sheen, flooring, furniture or existing finishes.
- A harmonious digital palette still needs to be checked against physical samples before painting.
- Do not treat the generic color names or swatches as product or brand specifications.
