- Set the Room width and Room length in feet, or keep the 14 × 16 ft starting room.
- Open the Furniture tab and drag items into the room.
- Select and move furniture until it fits the available space.
- Rotate items when needed with the rotate control or the R shortcut.
- Open Inspect to review red overlaps and listed tight clearances.
- Use zoom, pan, and fit controls to check the full layout or a smaller area.

Example: arrange a 14 × 16 ft room
The tool starts with a 14 ft width and a 16 ft length. Its area display is 14 × 16 = 224 sq ft. Open Furniture, drag the needed pieces into the room, and reposition or rotate them. Open Inspect to check whether any pieces overlap or have tight clearances. Overlaps turn red on the layout.
How the placement designer works
The tool displays a single rectangular room at scale with fixed walls, a door, and a window. Furniture is placed inside the room by dragging items from the Furniture catalog. You can select, move, rotate, zoom, and pan items. The room area shown above the layout is calculated as width × length and rounded to a whole square foot. Changing either room dimension rebuilds the room while keeping the existing furniture.
Reading the results
Use the room view to judge furniture positions and circulation space. Red areas indicate overlaps. The Inspect tab lists tight clearances so you can adjust the layout. The room summary shows the current rounded area in square feet.
Limitations and common mistakes
- The walls cannot be edited in this tool. You can change the room width and length, but the room remains rectangular.
- The room dimensions accept values from 4 to 80 ft.
- Changing the room size keeps existing furniture, so pieces may need to be repositioned after the change.
- A tight clearance warning does not replace checking the actual space you need for doors, drawers, walking paths, or accessibility.
